CABSAT MENA Knowledge Exchange

CABSAT MENA Broadcasting Conference
"Going HD – Business Plans and Technology Options"
3 – 5 March, Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre

Implementing HDTV services is increasingly receiving attention from forward looking broadcasters. One of the drivers for this renewed interest is the maturing of the MPEG-4 AVC compression technology and availability of products using this technology. The second driver is the growing market demand from the consumers, catalysed by easier availability of large screen displays at relatively affordable prices. Both these factors are combining together to move the industry in meeting the market requirement.

At this juncture it is difficult to believe that any broadcasters would go in for SD-only content delivery while considering digital transition. In fact, the negative effects of legacy issues five years down the road will force all new digital entrants to seriously consider going straight to HD services. There are, of course, other implications, for example, in spectrum and delivery platform areas.

In parallel, there is also increased awareness on digital implementation issues and business plans for digital TV and mobile broadcasting services. Broadcasters are on the look-out for the magic mix of delivery platforms and applications that could propel these new broadcasting services. A balanced mix of platforms and reliable revenue streams is what the broadcasters need.

The CABSAT 2009 Broadcasting Conference will address several issues that need to be addressed in the decision making process on going digital TV and HDTV. It aims to provide the participants with the requisite information and real-life experiences in these areas, both from inside of the Middle-East and from other parts of the world. This regional event will offer support for the broadcasters in commencing their preparations for taking up SD and high definition services, providing in depth understanding of the technology usage and business prospects. The conference will provide a platform for broadcasters and other industry players to exchange views and experiences on launching HD services.
