OUR INDUSTRY SOURCE

Dick Hobbs
DICK HOBBS -  leading international industry commentator

“Focused on the MENA region's changing broadcast, satellite, content landscape, we will be raising as many issues for debate as answering questions on subjects of real relevance to the broadcast and content industries.  With new papers added each month. The online debate will grow on topics relevant to the various strands of the CABSAT conference and exhibition.”

During a long career in the broadcast industry he has done most jobs: product development, training, management of change, marketing and sales. He has run a successful marketing communications agency and edited magazines, including IBC Daily and IBC TV News.

Today he is a well-known independent writer, commentator and consultant, providing support to leading vendors, IBC, IABM and others, as well as speaking at conferences and industry gatherings. His lively humour adds to his detailed knowledge of the technology behind today’s broadcast and media business.

Most recently, he has taken his encyclopaedic knowledge of modern developments in broadcasting and applied it to training. Working with the IABM he has updated a number of courses, including modern workflows and file-based infrastructures, and now delivers them around the world.

He also uses that knowledge as the basis for in-house debates and planning, helping broadcasters to focus their thinking on new ways of working and getting the best from today’s technology by analysing what needs to be achieved, not how old ways of working can be mapped onto today’s technology.

In 2013 he was invited by the IABM Education Foundation to be the convenor for the first in a series of training summits, to be held in growing markets around the world, to identify and develop new ways of bringing the best talent into the broadcast industry.

He is a graduate of the University of Surrey with a degree in music with applied physics.
